Christ-Centered Classical Education in the Heart of Central Texas
Our mission is to partner with families to classically educate and disciple our sons and daughters to lead and serve others for the glory of God.
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
CLASSICAL EDUCATION
Fortis’ classical model of education focuses on the holistic formation of students – the shaping of their hearts, minds, and souls – to prepare them not only for college but for life. This classical approach seeks to equip students with the tools of learning that are appropriate to their stages of development. Our youngest students learn the building blocks of knowledge and foundational facts at the Grammar Stage. As students enter adolescence – the Logic Stage – our model focuses on teaching them to think critically, understand connections, and reason well. At the Rhetoric Stage, our high school students practice the art of expression, focusing on communicating with elegance and persuasion while engaging a robust curriculum in the liberal arts and sciences.
At Fortis, the classroom experience includes Great Books, Socratic discussions, and the integration of subjects. From the humanities to advanced math and science courses, our distinguished teachers seek to guide students in the joy of discovering the truth for themselves and in learning how to think.
What sets Fortis apart is our understanding of the classical education model through a biblical lens. Our goal is to help develop students who not only communicate effectively, think critically, and love to learn – we seek to shape students who strive to become more like Christ.
CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY
Located in Liberty Hill, TX, Fortis is a community centered on Christ, committed to a biblical worldview and Christian character development. Our families represent more than 18 zip codes and worship in more than 50 local churches. God’s Word serves as the benchmark for all our academic goals and programs. Our leadership strives to honor Christ, understanding that we are ultimately accountable to Him. We encourage our students to embody a Christian attitude in all aspects of their lives, from academic excellence to sportsmanship and classroom conduct. As an organization founded on biblical beliefs, all board members, faculty, staff, and student families affirm their faith in the Bible as God’s holy, authoritative, and inerrant word and agree with Fortis Academy’s Statement of Beliefs.
COLLABORATIVE UNIVERSITY-MODEL
Fortis Academy is a recognized University-Model School® that integrates two key components of educational success: professional classroom instruction from outstanding teachers and nurturing at-home mentorship from parents.
Parents at Fortis Academy are involved in their child’s education on an academic, spiritual, and community level. Parents supervise their children on off-campus days to complete their assignments, teach them the word of God and His impact on this world, and help facilitate programs within Fortis.
In 2006, the average American elementary student attended school 40 hours a week and spent 78 minutes completing homework every evening. The University-Model hybrid schedule provides a more balanced approach and the gift of time together for families. At Fortis Academy, students will attend class on campus for a maximum of three days per week. Their at-home assignments are completed on off-campus days. Grammar student parents serve as co-teachers, facilitating lessons at home. In the upper levels, parents oversee their student’s work at home as mentors.
At Fortis Academy, we take seriously the delegated responsibility placed upon us by parents—to provide students with a Bible-based, character-focused education that will prepare them for college and promote a healthy relationship with Jesus Christ. Still, we cannot do this without parents taking an active role in the discipleship of their children. Whether it’s working with a younger child at home when not in school or closely monitoring an older child to ensure his or her success, Fortis Academy works best when parents understand and accept the role given to them by God.
We also welcome parents to become involved at Fortis Academy and use their God-given talents to enrich the overall school experience. If you are creative or great at planning, we welcome you to help plan school events and social activities. If you are a sports fan and enjoy working with youth, we encourage you to be involved in our sports program as an assistant coach.
Working together, it is our hope to glorify the Lord, encourage the parent, edify the student, and jointly produce future leaders with servants’ hearts.
STATEMENT OF BELIEFS
At least one parent must genuinely agree with and sign the Statement of Beliefs to qualify for admission. In addition, students in the 6th through 12th grades must also sign the Statement of Beliefs.
We believe the Bible to be the only inspired, infallible, authoritative, and inerrant Word of God, and we adhere to its orthodox interpretation regarding all matters of faith and practice, including, but not limited to, the sanctity of human life beginning at conception, the definition of marriage being between one man and one woman, the nature of gender being binary and rooted in biological origins, and the imperative nature of salvation in Jesus Christ alone.
We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We believe in the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.
We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
We adhere to the Nicene Creed, which says,
“We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten not made, one in being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven; by the power of the Holy Spirit he was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered, died, and was buried. On the third day he rose again in fulfillment of the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.
Amen.”
